The VIC VIPER, known as the XF-0002 Phosphorus in Airforce Delta Storm, is a Konami Legacy plane that has appeared in Airforce Delta Storm and Airforce Delta Strike. It is originally from the Gradius series, which is, obviously, by Konami.

Design[]

Airforce Delta Storm[]

An incredibly strange look. Although it bears a resemblance to the VIC VIPER (with the same "pincer" front section), this is clearly meant to be a "realistic" take on the craft. It winds up being fairly uncanny as a result.

Airforce Delta Strike[]

The VIC VIPER, this time with its actual design from the games. It is a plane/space-ship like craft, with a "front pincer" design around the cockpit and nose of the craft. It has two straight wings, and a single vertical stabilizer atop a single engine. The "pincers" are used to fire the craft's Laser.

Performance[]

Airforce Delta Storm[]

The best plane in the game, hands down. All stats except for Attack are completely maximum. When you unlock this plane, the game is basically over, unless you don't want to be cheap or if you want to hear other music in the game besides the theme music that plays whenever this plane is used.

Airforce Delta Strike[]

Compared to its Storm incarnation, the version from Strike is slightly nerfed in comparison. It possesses a decent top speed and good mobility, but not to the same level as the Phosphorus. However, the big boon of the craft is the fact that it has incredibly powerful machine guns; a few shots are enough to destroy most things, and the guns have a long range. They can even pierce solid objects in certain cases. It also possesses the Ripple Laser, which is basically a rocket that can also pass through objects, though speed is fairly lackluster for it. It's a highly effective craft either way.

Trivia[]

  • The music that plays when this plane is used in Storm is a heavily remixed version of a music track from Life Force, another game by Konami which also features the VIC VIPER, titled "Power of Anger".
  • When the player pauses the game while using this plane in space missions in Strike, a unique pause sound which was also used for older Konami games is used and the music stops. This trait is shared with the Falsion and the Aura-Wing.
  • In Storm, this plane along with the XQ/U-2Bee Fatty and M.B.W.-189 Sun-Fish, has a longer missile range than other planes' (6000 feet/around 1800 meters over standard missile's 5000 feet/around 1500 meters).
  • In the PAL and NTSC-J versions of Storm, this plane's machine guns fire blue lasers instead of bullets.
  • Although this plane is unlocked for free in both games, this plane's price in Strike would technically be 780,000 credits due to how repair prices for planes are calculated (50% of the plane's cost to purchase, hundred-digit numbers rounded up).
