The Gorge Base is the seventh mission in the original Airforce Delta. It involves a typical canyon-flight, seen in most flight sims.
An attack is being mounted on an enemy supply base in the Algoss province in order to assist our ground forces to penetrate into the interior regions.
Your mission is to confirm the presence of and eradicate the enemy supply base hidden in the mountains.
The site is a natural fortress, impregnable to land assault.
In addition, the air space above the gorges is saturated with their aerial defense network.
We recommend that you fly within the gorge, and be on guard against making contact with the rock face.
A fairly simple level. All you need to do is fly along the canyon. It does get narrow in places, but it's nothing too difficult to deal with. If you've played these kinds of levels in other flight sims, this one does basically nothing new by comparison. The only enemies in your way are helicopters that are bad shots, and gun pods that are barely effective. Destroy them as you pass them by. Once you get to the end of the canyon, the level is basically over, as you have near-free movement (Don't fly above the canyon!). Once you've destroyed the base, the mission ends.
- This is the only canyon-flight level in this game.
- This is also the only level to have an upper-altitude limit.
- The stacked pipe/steel beam obstacles seen at the beginning and the end of the canyon resemble the ones found in the mission "Greased Lightning" from Ace Combat 2.
- In the manual, the mission location is, instead, given the name "Sierra Alasia".
