The Tanker Defense from Bombers mission archetype appears in Airforce Delta Storm. It involves defending allied oil tankers from three bombers each appearing after another in the NTSC version. In the PAL version, there are more than three bombers and they appear in three groups, one after another. There are three of these missions in the game and all of them are set in the Elesia province story arc.

Overall Description[]

In the NTSC version, these missions involve waiting for three bombers to appear, one after another, and then shooting them down before they can destroy any of the allied tankers. In the PAL version, the bombers appear almost instantly and in three groups, one after another.

Walkthrough[]

These missions are fairly easy. It takes a little over a minute (The time taken for the first bomber to appear is a bit different in each mission) for the first bomber to appear so feel free to shoot down enemy fighters or destroy enemy ships while waiting. When a bomber appears, wait for it to get closer to the mission range so you can avoid the risk of leaving the mission zone. Fast planes are generally recommended for these missions because you may have been attacking a bomber head-on at first, but then you probably missed them and you had to swoop back around to attack them from behind and with speed, you can catch up to them with ease if you get far behind them. You fail these missions if a bomber destroys a tanker, but complete them after shooting down all three bombers. In the PAL version, these missions are changed somewhat. There are more than three bombers and they appear in groups, one after another. Also, in Path to the Open Sea, one of the planes is also a target.

Mission Dialogue[]

NOTE: This applies to all three missions; There is no difference in dialogue between any of them.

Briefing[]

As you know, this long war is bigining[sic] fought over the basic necessities of food and other resources. We have decided to transport the crude oil taken from an oil field we are occupying to the rear. The United Forces are expected to throw everything they have into an attempt to destroy the tanker. Your mission is to guard this tanker on its voyage. Make sure that the tanker sustains no damage in the attack. Over and out.

Mission Map[]

Delta Leader: (When each mission is selected on the map) An enemy bomber group has been spotted heading for friendly oil tankers. Keep those tankers safe from the bombers. Once the tankers are on the open sea, our job will be finished.

Mission[]

Delta 2?: (When the first bomber appears after approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds into Oil SOS, 1 minute and 29 seconds into Path to the Open Sea, and 1 minute and 34 seconds into Escape at Dawn) 1st wave of enemy bombers closing! (When the second bomber appears after approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds into Oil SOS, 2 minutes and 29 seconds into Path to the Open Sea, and 2 minutes and 34 seconds into Escape at Dawn) 2nd wave of enemy bombers closing! (When the third and final bomber appears after approximately 3 minutes and 20 seconds into Oil SOS, 3 minutes and 30 seconds into Path to the Open Sea, and 3 minutes and 35 seconds into Escape at Dawn) 3rd wave of enemy bombers closing! (When a bomber gets close enough to the tankers) There's no time! Hurry!! (When a bomber destroys a tanker) Tanker has been sunk.
