Briefing[]

Robert: I see everyone's--

Lilia: This is an emergency! Let's get down to business. Amelia!

Amelia: Yes, ma'am! The enemy ground fleet has begun an all-out assault on our lines. One division in particular has broken through and is approaching Area NB-52's fuel pipeline.

Lilia: We can't wait for official orders. 2nd Element must scramble immediately. Wipe out the invading ground fleet while defending the front and the pipeline.

Holst: But we don't know what kind of power this ground fleet has. And what about our defenders in NB-52?

Lilia: Well, first of all, ground fleet is really just a nickname. We called them that because they look like those land battleships that the 3rd Squadron found.

Robert: But their weapons turned out to be very different from what we expected, so we can't be sure they're the same. Anyway, the defenders were nearly wiped out and seem to have started retreating.

Brian: What do you mean, 'seem too'? And isn't the pipeline pretty far from the front?

Amelia: At the moment, yes. But we've lost contact with the defenders. Other intel reports that the invaders sneaked in from the ruins of Area NB-53.

Lilia: [angry] So that's why they weren't spotted until it was too late. They really caught us with our pants down. Man, they must think we're total idiots.

Robert: But if NB-52 is infiltrated, the entire front will collapse. Then it won't matter what they think of us.

Lilia: Okay, okay, I got it already! 2nd Element, don't let the enemy get away! You've got to shoot them all down in Area NB-52. All right? Let just one enemy get away and the front line is done for. And that puts us on a one-way road to defeat.

Holst: ...All right, but are we the only ones going?

Lilia: [calms down] I've requested backup from the 78th Fighter Squad. But are you saying Lieutenant Glankert is no good fresh out of the hospital? And that newbie will just weigh you down?

Pedro: [angry] Hey, now! I'm sure that's not what Holst here was thinking. Don't go putting words in his mouth.

Lilia: ...Look, we don't have time for this. Just get out there and stop them. Remember, if evenNOTE: The subtitles say "if even," but she actually says "even if" one of them gets past the pipeline, we're done for! Got it?

Holst: Roger!

Robert: All right, 2nd Element, guard the front with everything you've got. The enemy is using unknown weapons again. Be careful out there...

Lilia: Uh, Commander? Everyone's gone.

[briefing ends]

Mission[]

David: We're going for a frontal assault!

Collette: Roger!

Constance: (not subtitled) Roger!

[they try to launch missiles at the first Type-G1: Dawn and the two Type-G2: Rises next to it, but it fails]

Collette: All shots right on target!

Constance: It's not working!

David: Urrrrrr! [crashes into the Type-G1: Dawn]

Collette: (not subtitled) Urrrrrr! [crashes into the Type-G2: Rise on the left]

Pedro: (if playing as Holst) Roger. Attacking from the side.

Brian: (if playing as Holst) Wh-what the hell are these guys?

Holst: (if playing as Brian) You heard her. All units blast away from the side.

Pedro: (if playing as Brian) Roger that.

[if Holst is being played as, either Pedro or Brian will interact with the Boa leader. The following thirteen lines of dialogue depict Brian's potential conversation with the Boa leader]

Boa: Hey, Cobra 3! Boa Lead here!

Brian: Y-yes, sir!

Boa: So you're the new guy, huh?

Brian: I may be new, but you can save your insults!

Boa: Save my insults?! Let me clue you in to something.

Brian: Yeah?

Boa: A newbie's job is to stay out of the veterans' way.

Brian: But--

Boa: Got it? Then keep your eyes on your own work!

Brian: Y-yes, sir!

Boa: No, not 'yes, sir'! 'Roger'!

Brian: Roger!

Boa: Good! Now go bust up those old tires but good!

[Pedro may interact with the Boa leader if either Holst or Brian is being played as. The following six lines of dialogue depict Pedro's potential conversation with the Boa leader]

Boa: Cobra 2, do you copy? Boa Lead here!

Pedro: Cobra 2 here--loud and clear!

Boa: I hear you're coming off an injury. How're you doing?

Pedro: Can't you tell just by watching me move?

Boa: You've got to move a little first! Sheesh!

Pedro: Roger. Happy to comply.

[if Brian is being played as, either Holst or Pedro will interact with the Boa leader. The following eight lines of dialogue depict Holst's potential conversation with the Boa leader]

Holst: Boa Lead, Duke here.

Boa: Boa here. So you're that composite squadron?

Holst: We're jumping into the fray. If you should need reinforcements...

Boa: Don't worry about us--just take care of them!

Holst: Roger that.

Boa: Say, didn't you used to be in the regular army?

Holst: ...Yeah, I was an instructor.

Boa: Oh, really? I see...

Debriefing[]

[in briefing room]

Robert: Excellent work, men! This is a real victory.

Brian: [delightfully] Yes, Commander, we showed them! We tore all those weird weapons to pieces! If that's all they've got, victory is ours!

Lilia: Victory? If only it were that easy...

Brian: [frowns] Eh?

Holst: So the war isn't going in our favor?

Brian: [angry] Are you kidding?! It must be going in our favor! Do you have any idea how much we destroyed out there?! It doesn't matter what weapons they have, our battle alone was enough to turn the tide in our favor!

Lilia: Yes, thanks to you, NB-52 fared well. The army losses we[sic] so low, they thanked us. But everybody else took a beating.

Holst: I see...

Lilia: Overall, the front line has receded. We have to hold it in place until the army can start its offensive.

Holst: Yes, ma'am.

Brian: [frustrated] But, we won?! That can't be possible!!

Pedro: How much does it take to get it through to your head? You dreamy new recruits are the worst.

Brian: [angry] Lieutenant Pedro! You can't mean me?!

Pedro: I do. And I don't take back a word of it.

Brian: How do you mean?!

Pedro: [angry] I mean just what I say. You fly a mission, come back alive, your stats are up, and you can't care less about anything else! You're an embarrassment!

Brian: Is there something wrong with being happy about coming back alive? Or being happy about our achievements?

Pedro: You're not the center of the universe! This is no time to be optimistic about the war!

Holst: [angry] Stop this nonsense, the both of you!

Pedro: [offscreen] ...

Brian: [offscreen] ...

Holst: You're free to celebrate, and you're free to take the war seriously! But you are not allowed to stir up conflict in this Element!

Pedro: [appears onscreen and is troubled] Lead...

Holst: [calms down] If this baloney does not stop, this Element will lose its ability to fight!

Pedro: But...!

Holst: Enough said! [leaves]

Pedro: ...

Lilia: First Lieutenant Glankert.

Pedro: Yes, ma'am!

Lilia: Enough from you. And as for you, Second Lieutenant Douglas...

Brian: [appears onscreen and is neutral] Yes'm!

Lilia: Each time you come back alive, you're that much closer to being a hero; if you don't, you'll be soon forgotten.

Pedro: [turns neutral] ...Hmph.

Brian: ...Hmph!
