The Oilfield Base Defense mission archetype appears in Airforce Delta Storm. It involves taking out enemies trying to re-occupy and destroy oilfields in deserts secured by the Allied Forces. There are three of these missions in the game and all of them take place in the Elesia province story arc.
Overall Description[]
The first two of these missions involve taking out enemies placed in different target areas of the allied oil base on the map. Electronic Darkness has severe sandstorms rendering radar sweeps ineffectual, giving all enemies in the level stealth capabilities similar to the enemies in The Ice Floe Base in the original Airforce Delta. Oppression is similar to Electronic Darkness but is easier since there is nothing tampering with the radar. Time Limit is different from the other two missions as it instead involves shooting down three bombers, one appearing after another, before they destroy the oilfield base, similar to the Tanker Defense from Bombers missions. In the PAL version, however, there are seven bombers that must be shot down.
Mission Objectives[]
- Find and destroy/shoot down all targets.
Mission Dialogue[]
Briefing[]
NOTE: The briefing is the same for all three missions.
Our main goal in the drive to occupy Elesia (erroneously spelled 'Elsia' in-game) is to gain control of the massive resources in the ground there. Many of the oilfields that we have secured so far are under attack from the United Forces. The re-occupation and destruction of the oilfield bases is only a matter of time. Your mission is to do everything you can to prevent the oilfield bases from being destroyed. Over and out.
Mission Map[]
Delta Leader: (When Electronic Darkness is selected on the map) We have to protect the oil bases and, at the same time, destroy the invading ground troops. Also, severe sand storms in the skies will render our radars useless. We must engage the enemy using only line of sight.
Delta leader: (When Oppression is selected on the map) We have to protect the oil bases, and at the same time destroy the enemy ground troops. We're finished if the oilfield bases are destroyed.
Delta Leader: (When Time Limit is selected on the map) We have information that enemy bombers are headed for our oilfield bases. We have to do everything we can to prevent the bases from being bombed into oblivion.
[no dialogue during either Electronic Darkness or Oppression]
[Time Limit]
Delta 2?: (When the first bomber in the NTSC version or group of bombers in the PAL version appears after approximately 1 minute and 32 seconds into the mission. In the PAL version, he says this line as soon as the mission begins) 1st wave of enemy bombers closing! (When the second bomber in the NTSC version or group of bombers in the PAL version appears after approximately 1 minute and 56 seconds into the mission. In the PAL version, he says this line after approximately 18 seconds into the mission) 2nd wave of enemy bombers closing! (When the third bomber in the NTSC version or group of bombers in the PAL version appears after approximately 2 minutes and 47 seconds into the mission. In the PAL version, he says this after approximately 1 minute and 54 seconds into the mission) 3rd wave of enemy bombers closing!
Delta 2?: (After one bomber is shot down/Only in NTSC version) Targets remaining: 2
Delta 2?: (After two bombers are shot down/Only in NTSC version) Targets remaining: 1
Delta 2?: (When a bomber destroys an oil base) The oilfield base has been destroyed!
[mission fails if a bomber destroyed an oil base]
[mission is completed once all targets are shot down]
Electronic Darkness[]
Electronic Darkness is the first mission for Eleon Airbase in Airforce Delta Storm and the first of these oilfield base defense missions.
Walkthrough[]
As mentioned above, all enemies in this level have stealth capabilities, even those that normally don't have them. This is due to severe sandstorms rendering radar ineffective, so you have to move through the map searching for enemies. The minimap has a large ring inside it representing where enemies may be and that can be helpful. There are several enemies in the target areas including helicopters, PAC-3s, ZSU-23 AAAs, and T-72 MBTs. You have to destroy all of them and be careful while doing so. There are two planes in the air you must shoot down. The mission is completed once all targets are destroyed/shot down.
Reward[]
The reward for this mission is 250,000 credits plus a variable amount depending on the number of enemies taken out and, in the case of the planes, how they were taken out. The Su-27 Flanker and the Eurofighter 2000 are unlocked for 260,000 credits and 410,000 credits respectively. Falling Down is also unlocked.
Mission-Specific Features[]
- The sky is a sunset with a bit of a pale blue-orange mix.
- This mission shares its music with Time Limit.

Oppression[]
Oppression is the fifth mission for Daeira Airbase in Airforce Delta Storm and the second of these oilfield base defense missions.
Walkthrough[]
As mentioned above, this mission plays similarly to Electronic Darkness. There are a few differences however. For instance, there are three target areas instead of four and the first one is a little further northwest from where the player starts, unlike Electronic Darkness which has a target area almost where the player begins. Also, there is nothing making radar sweeps ineffectual, thus making it easier to find enemies in this level. There are also two less enemies here than in Electronic Darkness.
Reward[]
The reward for this mission is 90,000 credits plus a variable amount depending on the number of enemies taken out and, in the case of the planes, how they were taken out. The Rafale B is also unlocked for 380,000 credits.
Mission-Specific Features[]
- The time of day is night, and there are many clouds in the sky.
- This mission shares its music with Double-Winged Condor and Escape at Dawn.

Time Limit[]
Time Limit is a mission for Febris Airbase and the last of these oilfield base defense missions in Airforce Delta Storm.
Walkthrough[]
As mentioned above, this mission is different from the other two since it involves, instead of destroying ground targets and shooting down helicopters, shooting down three bombers, each appearing after another, before they destroy either of two allied oil bases. In the PAL version, there are seven bombers you must shoot down. You must also shoot down two of six airplanes. It is recommended to shoot down the fighter jets first, then the bombers, because then the radar will show where the bombers are and it will be easier to find them. You fail this mission if a bomber destroys an oil base, but complete it after shooting down all targets.
Reward[]
The reward for this mission is 80,000 credits plus a variable amount depending on the number of enemies shot down and how they were shot down since all enemies in this level are air targets. The F/A-24A Acorn is unlocked for 620,000 credits.
Mission-Specific Features[]
- This mission shares its music with Electronic Darkness as mentioned in that section of this page.
- The mission appears to be set between the morning and the afternoon.
