- "Its payload is a little on the small side, but the acceleration-to-price performance more than makes up for it."
The MiG-21bis (NATO reporting name of Fishbed, known simply as the MiG-21 Fishbed in Airforce Delta, and MiG-21bis Fishbed in Airforce Delta Storm) is a recurring aircraft in the Airforce Delta series, it appears in all three Airforce Delta games. In Airforce Delta Strike, it's used by the Merv Flying Corps, and can be used by Ken Thomas.
Origin (Real-Life)[]
The MiG-21bis is a Russian jet fighter and interceptor craft. It is the most produced supersonic jet craft in aviation history, with a whopping 11,496 built overall. The Fishbed N was one of the last third-generation variants of the MiG-21bis designed; it was used as an export model and possessed a slightly different avionics package, and was licensed by the Indian HAL company.
Design (All Games)[]
A very well known aircraft, the MiG-21 is a simple tube shape, with two small wings on the sides, a holed "nose" with the nose of the craft protruding from the hole, and a single engine.
Performance[]
Airforce Delta[]
A decent alternative to the F-5E. Although it has worse mobility and defense, speed and power are greatly superior. This thing has the highest power you'll see for quite a while, until later craft start turning up. Though, if you want mobility, this thing isn't the go-to plane for that, as its mobility is quite bad (Just barely above the worst in the game, in fact). Still, a good early game plane, if you prefer speed.
Airforce Delta Storm[]
Surprisingly strong stats for an early game craft, this thing has impressive speed, power and mobility. However, a horrible attack and defense stat, combined with an absolutely piss poor range completely kills this thing. Though, in all fairness, it is pretty good for early game, thanks to the impressive stats otherwise. However, be ready to throw it away once better rolls around, because the piss poor range and missile count isn't gonna do you any favors later on in the game.
Airforce Delta Strike[]
A somewhat below average craft. Although it's the first plane you'll unlock for purchase, stats overall are fairly mediocre. The special weapon on this is the exact same as the F-5E. So... Why use this over a plane that's simply more mobile? The only appreciable improvements are a slightly better speed, anti ground, and defenses. It also has 80 missiles as opposed to 70, thanks to it being a multirole.

Enemy Appearances (Missions)[]
Airforce Delta[]
- Enemy MiG-21s appear in Military Supply Base, Dogfight, Escort Mission and POW Rescue. In Dogfight and POW Rescue, the lone MiG-21 is a target. In Military Supply Base and Escort Mission, the MiG-21s are optional (Though it's highly recommended to shoot them down in Escort Mission).
Airforce Delta Storm[]
- Enemy MiG-21s appear in Battle for the Zabios Ruins. They are not required kills. One also appears in To the Front Lines, as an optional kill. And lastly, they can turn up in random intercepts in the first chapter.
Airforce Delta Strike[]
- The Merv Alliance uses this craft, primarily in early-game missions such as Doll Master.

Trivia[]
- In Airforce Delta Storm, the MiG-21 is the only model of the "MiG-21 family" to not be free; It must be purchased for 65,000 credits. In comparison, the MiG-21d7 Fishbale and the MiG-II Fishbed zwei are both unlocked for free (By completing Chase and Double-Winged Condor respectively).
- This plane is one of the first planes to be unlocked in all three games.
- Amusingly, its price in Airforce Delta Strike is its prices from Airforce Delta and Airforce Delta Storm combined.
