Briefing

Robert: [worried] ......

Amelia: [worried] .........

Lilia: Well, let's give you the latest sit rep. Amelia?

Amelia: Yes, ma'am!

Lilia: Give us the most current simulation results and recon data.

Amelia: All right. The low-orbit structure that was attacked from space has begun to drop out of its orbit. If it breaks up and lands on earth, the shock wave will cause widespread disaster.

Lilia: [angry] We know all that! What we need to know is how much time we have until it lands!

Amelia: According to our simulation, maybe 30 minutes. If the lift's emergency equipment works, it should create an emergency barrier at altitude 3500, but that may not help much. The Space Lab can launch missile interceptors, but even those might not get there in time.

Lilia: [calms down] But with all that help, we should be okay. Let's see... we'll use Delta 1st and 3rd Elements. Move out.

Ruth: [confused] Move out?!

Jamie: [confused] Wait just a minute there, princess. What are you telling us to do?

Lilia: [angry] You didn't hear me? 1st and 3rd Elements, move out at once. You'll be fighting alongside the Space Lab's interceptors. Your targets are the falling Chiron Lift fragments. Intercept and prevent them from colliding with earth. That is all!

Alex: [angry] Oh, sure... intercept giant pieces of space junk, is that it?!

Lilia: Yes, that's it. Delta took part in the attack on the Chiron Lift. Now is your chance to fix things.

Rick: [worried] Will our missiles have any effect? Besides, isn't it a little too late now to get there in time...?

Lilia: Hurry up and you'll make it. Hopefully the space lab and the barrier can handle the small stuff. Your job is to make the big fragments as small as possible. Your missiles ought to be able to do that, no problem.

Ken: Fix things, huh?

Lilia: If we don't try while there's still a chance, this whole thing will be on Delta's head. So stop complaining and knock those things out of the air!

Robert: [calms down] ...You heard the lady. That's what you have to do. 1st and 3rd Elements, move out! Take care of the Chiron Lift structure. Good luck and fight hard!

[briefing ends]

Mission

Amelia: Go after the fragments of the orbital lift. There's a full-strength plasma barrier at 11,000 feet (3500 meters. in the PAL version). Touching it means instant death. Use caution.

HQ: Put the anti-meteor field on full strength.

Operator: Roger. Switching to emergency field. Emergency field... stabilized. It will destroy items up to a certain mass with 97% accuracy.

HQ: Good. We can hold 'em off for a while... but for how long?

Amelia: Nomad to all units. Will forward HUD data when we have the falling object on radar. The field will block small pieces, so go for the bigger ones first. Point A target confirmed. Now forwarding data. Refreshing Point A position. Now clearing 30,000 feet (10,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Pierre: Hee hee! Heya, Storm! How's it going? It's so sad to see you're still a slave to gravity.

Albert: Shut up, peon!

Pierre: Tsk tsk, Storm! Guess what? ...I finally got it! That's right... power! The power to transcend even my own genius!

Albert: You're depraved! Insane! Power is taken, not received!

Pierre: As long as I'm still around in the end. I'm sooo sick of the ground.

Albert: Zip it!

Pierre: Ha ha ha ha! At least try to crawl after me! I've been guided right through the pitch-black darkness! Nothing in the entire universe can get in my way!

Page One: I'm leaving it up to you! There's too many of 'em! If this keeps up... One of 'em's headed your way!

Amelia: (when any fragments over Point A fall to 21,000 feet/7,000 meters) Refreshing Point A position. Now clearing 21,000 feet (7,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Amelia: (when any fragments over Point A fall to 18,000 feet/6,000 meters) Refreshing Point A position. Now clearing 18,000 feet (6,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Amelia: (when any fragments over Point A fall to 15,000 feet/5,000 meters) Refreshing Point A position. Now clearing 15,000 feet (5,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

[when the fragments over Point A fall to 12,000 feet/4,000 meters, the following five lines are said]

Amelia: Now clearing 12,000 feet (4,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Operator: The target has been eliminated.

HQ: And the field?

Operator: Output is decided, but still high. It's stable enough.

Page One: Sure, the field'll fend 'em off to a certain point...

Amelia: Point B target confirmed. Now forwarding data.

Amelia: (when the fragments over Point B fall to 45,000 feet/15,000 meters) Refreshing Point B position. Now clearing 45,000 feet. Data refreshing complete.

Operator: (after a certain number of fragments hit the field) Field is more than 50% damaged.

Page One: What's happening? Are we gonna make it?! Page One here. Failed to capture target!

Albert: You there, in the blue jet! Take me on! ...and take on my pain! My bitterness!

Ken: (if not being played as) You're in my way.

Albert: (if Ken is not being played as) What? You won't fight me, Mr. Blue?!

Ken: (if not being played as) The earth is in trouble. You're not my only enemy, you know.

Albert: (if Ken is not being played as) Why you...!!

Ken: (if not being played as) If you were, though, you'd already be dead.

Albert: (if Ken is not being played as) So you think that little of me...?

Ken: (if not being played as) Don't be stupid.

Albert: (if Ken is not being played as) Oh, I'll make you change your mind. We'll put this to rest, all right.

Ken: (if not being played as) Move. If you keep blocking my path... I'll shoot you down.

Albert: (if Ken is not being played as) If you're going to do it, do it already!

Amelia: (when the player damages fragments over Point B or Point C to the point where they split up) The target split up on impact! Destroy all of it!

Operator: (if half of the fragments over Point B or Point C fall to the field) Field has reached maximum damage! It can't handle much more of this!

Jamie: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) What the hell is going on here?

Alex: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) Shogun!

Jamie: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) Can't this engine work any harder?! Quit screamin'! I know it's gettin' tight!

Rick: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) Shogun, keep an eye on your plane!

Jamie: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) If I thought about my plane, I wouldn't be able to do my job! I'm a Delta member too! Move! C'mon, fly, dammit!

Rick: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) He's just so stubborn.

Alex: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) Yeah, he's a handful. Let's get in there.

Rick: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) Jamie, you get the stragglers.

Jamie: (if playing as a 3rd Element character) Hey, you guys...

Operator: (after even more fragments fall to the field) Field is more than 70% damaged.

Amelia: Point C target confirmed. Now forwarding data.

Page One: Damn! It's too big! This jet of mine can't break it up!

Amelia: (when the fragment over Point C falls to 45,000 feet/15,000 meters) Refreshing Point C position. Now clearing 45,000 feet (15,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Amelia: (when the fragment over Point C falls to 30,000 feet/10,000 meters) Refreshing Point C position. Now clearing 30,000 feet (10,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Amelia: (when the fragment over Point C falls to 21,000 feet/7,000 meters) Refreshing Point C position. Now clearing 21,000 feet (7,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Amelia: (when the fragment over Point C falls to 18,000 feet/6,000 meters) Refreshing Point C position. Now clearing 18,000 feet (6,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Amelia: (when the fragment over Point C falls to 15,000 feet/5,000 meters) Refreshing Point C position. Now clearing 15,000 feet (5,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Amelia: (when the fragment over Point C falls to 12,000 feet/4,000 meters) Refreshing Point C position. Now clearing 12,000 feet (4,000 meters. in the PAL version). Data refreshing complete.

Operator: Target eliminated.

Albert: (if shot down) Why? Why couldn't I win?

Pierre: (if Albert is shot down) Well, you've just reached your limit! You are bound, after all!

Albert: (if shot down) Damn my 'limit'! I'm bailing!

Pierre: (if Albert is shot down) That's easy. Just take it all in stride.

[if too many target fragments fall to the field, the mission will fail and the following two lines will be said]

Operator: The field has been destroyed!

Operator: The target is past the point of no return... The target's going down!

[after all the target fragments are destroyed, the mission is completed and the following two lines will be said]

Amelia: Nomad to all units. All fragments confirmed down. No further falling objects.

Operator: Switching normal field. Stabilized.

[mission ends]

Debriefing (if Ellen was not unlocked)

[at runway]

Jamie: [depressed] ...Damn! [leaves]

Bob: [smiles] Jones! [follows Jamie into the hallway and frowns] Hey, old geezer!

Jamie: [angry] What do you want?! I'm busy!

Bob: What, busy smashing up the hallway?

Jamie: That's right! Stay outta my way!

Bob: [delightfully] What's eating you? The strategy worked. The coast'll have to be evacuated, but at least we avoided a disaster, right?

Jamie: [sadly] ...Yeah, I guess.

Bob: And you made it back alive, to boot! So what's bugging you?

Jamie: [angry] Hmph! Made it back alive? Well, of course I did! That's because I didn't do a damn thing out there!

Bob: [smiles] What are you talking about?

Jamie: [depressed] This never happened to me before. This is the first time I couldn't do anything useful!

Bob: ...Well, with that plane of yours, that's no surprise. But if the plan went well, what've you got to complain about?

Jamie: Rick and Alex had to back me up! I was just in their way out there...

Bob: But that's what a team does. I'm sure there've been times when you backed them up, too. Nothing to get so down about. If you're that worried about it, why don't you change planes? Get something newer... ahem! faster, I mean. Problem solved!

Jamie: [angry] If I could do that, I wouldn't be here worrying right now! ...But I just can't. I'm just not cut out for the new planes. [depressed] All those electronic gadgets and fancy instruments! I'm just too old to learn all that stuff now! It's too much!

Bob: [disappointed] Jones...

Jamie: [calms down] I really oughta just retire. I know I should, when I think about it with my head and not my heart... Can't have an old geezer like me holding back the unit. It just ain't right. I know that but... [angry] ...I wanna fight! This war's gonna determine Earth's entire future. I don't wanna be just some bystander to it! And Delta's like a second family to me now. If I'm gonna fight this war, I want it to be with these guys to the end!

Bob: [troubled] ...

Jamie: [worried] Hey, Bob, what do you think I should do? How can an old geezer like me still contribute to Delta?

Bob: ...I can't answer that question for you, you know.

Jamie: [calms down] Yeah, I know. This is something I've gotta work out for myself. Sorry to dump it all on you, old man...

Bob: [worried] Jones...

Jamie: I'm fine! Just leave me alone so I can think. Gotta figure out what I'm gonna do... [leaves]

Bob: ...

[debriefing ends]

Debriefing (if Ellen was unlocked)

[at runway]

Robert: [grins] Congratulations! Excellent job!

Lilia: [delightfully] You guys were really great out there today!

Rick: [delightfully] You think so? Gosh, you're making me blush.

Alex: [delightfully] I guess we were pretty damn good!

Pedro: [grins] Hey, Lead, don't let it go to your head now, okay?

Holst: [laughs] Aw, knock it off!

Brian: Huh...?

Ruth: Second Lieutenant Douglas? What is it?

Brian: Isn't that a plane over there? It looks like it's headed this way...

Ruth: What?! Where...?

Lilia: [angry] Hey, wait a minute! I wasn't informed of that flight plan!

Ruth: So that must mean...

John: [pleased] Looks like some prey just wandered into our hunting grounds!

Jamie: [angry] It landed! They gonna storm us?!

Ken: [angry] It's the OCC...! [the pilot is then revealed to be an unbrainwashed Ellen and the music changes] ...! [calms down] Ellen!!

Ellen: ...Ken? Is that you, Ken?

Ken: !!

Ruth: [puzzled] Do you know Second Lieutenant Thomas...?

Ellen: [in the NTSC-U version, she has her neutral expression. In the PAL and NTSC-J versions, however, she has her delighted expression] Ken! It's you! Oh, I missed you so much!

[transitions to meeting room with Ken and Lilia, the former of whom is smiling while the latter has her neutral expression]

Lilia: ...We'll have to wait on the DNA results, but all her other characteristics check out. I'd say that's really Ellen McNichol!

Ken: ...Really Ellen...?

Lilia: Well, we can't take any chances, so we'll have to put her in lockup for the night. She could still be a spy, after all.

Ken: Yeah, I understand. You've gotta do what you've gotta do.

Lilia: She had a scribbled note in her hand. It said, "You can have your Doll back. Now we must fight. Albert Ungar."

Ken: [frowns] Albert...? Why would an enemy pilot do that?

Lilia: [smiles] Sounds like he's making a deal. He gives you Ellen back, but, in exchange, you have to agree to fight him.

Ken: A deal, huh?

Lilia: [delightfully] Actually, this is a lucky break for us. He delivered someone who knows the latest OCC intel right to our doorstep! First, I'll have to convince the brass to let us handle her. Then I'll see what she knows and put that Intel straight to work.

Ken: Let us handle her? Here? You mean Delta's going to take her?

Lilia: [angry] Of course! She'll be a huge source of information. And since Delta's going to space, we could really use her experience. Or are you telling me you'd rather we sent your girlfriend away someplace else?

Ken: ...No! Of course not. That's not what I meant. It's just...

Lilia: Just what?

Ken: [delightfully] It's just... I thought we'd never get to be in the same squadron again...

Lilia: [delightfully] Tell you what. I'll give you some special leave. Once Ellen gets to probation, you two will have some time to catch up.

Ken: [angry] Lilia!

Lilia: Don't get so mad! Everybody understands, you know. ...All right. End of meeting. [leaves]

Ken: [calms down] ... [delightfully] Ellen...! Ellen came back...!
