The English Electric Lightning is a recurring aircraft in the Airforce Delta series, it has appeared in all three Airforce Delta games. It was called the English Electric Lightning/F6 in the first two games. It was a secret plane in the first game, having two fairly convoluted unlock requirements. In Airforce Delta Storm, it was also somewhat of a secret plane, though much easier to unlock. In Airforce Delta Strike, however, it's the starting plane of Rick Campbell.

Origin (Real-Life)[]

The English Electric Lightning was an aircraft developed in the Cold War era, developed by English Electric (Before it was absorbed by the British Aircraft Corporation). It was the only all-British Mach 2 fighter, and was used as an interceptor until it was retired, though it was never required to attack another aircraft.

Design (All games)[]

From the front, the Lightning has a very standard design, quite similar to a MiG. However, once you look at the rear-end, you can see the incredibly strangely stacked engines that make this craft unique. Aside from that, the plane has a fairly simple Cold War-era design; Large slanted wings, semi-hollow nose, etc etc.

Performance[]

Airforce Delta[]

Despite its status as a secret plane, this plane is very below average overall. The only stat that's noteworthy is Speed; all other stats are below average. The low stats do not warrant the insane price tag at all.

Airforce Delta Storm[]

Once again, a hidden plane with below average stats, though this time the cost is much less insipid. Speed is, again, the highlight. All other stats range from mediocre to bad.

Airforce Delta Strike[]

Having lost its hidden plane status in this game, it is now the starting plane for Rick. It's a fairly okay starting plane. Mobility is okay to start off, and it's got semi decent anti-air stats, with speed to help back it up. It'll be replaced soon enough, but to start off with, it's not bad at all.

Trivia[]

  • This is the single most expensive buyable plane in the franchise, with the Airforce Delta incarnation costing 8,000,000 credits.
  • This aircraft shares the same plane number in the US version of Storm and all versions of Strike.
  • The generic paint scheme of this plane in Strike looks very similar to the enemy paint scheme from the original Airforce Delta (both are green with white lines).
