Iceberg is a mission for the 2nd Element of Delta Squadron in Airforce Delta Strike.

Overview

The E.D.A.F.'s weather research vessel spotted an enemy fleet in the polar region. They appear to be attempting to outflank the E.D.A.F. and Lilia Mihajlovna suspects that they're planning to come through a relatively undefended area for a direct ground assault. The enemy fleet is well-camouflaged and will be hard to spot. They have aircraft carriers disguised as huge ice floes. Delta Squadron 2nd Element is dispatched to cooperate with the other units to destroy the enemy fleet and stop all of them from escaping the area. During the mission, 2nd Element encounters Sergei Kinski piloting an Su-32FN. Despite that, they manage to find all of the enemy ships disguised as ice floes and destroy them before they can escape, completing the mission.

Walkthrough

This mission can be very difficult since the Type-E9: Holders disguised as ice floes are each made of three components you must destroy. For each Holder, one component is on the top, but another is on the inside of the ship and the third is on the bottom. If you use an attacker with missiles, you'll have to fly through the carriers several times to destroy their weak points and the space to fly inside of them is very narrow. Using a plane with rockets like Holst's A-10A Thunderbolt II or Brian's A-4M Skyhawk can make this mission much easier since the splash damage of the rockets ignores the ice blocking the Holders' weak points and destroys them regardless, eliminating the need to fly through the carriers. The splash damage of Fuel-Air Explosive Bombs is also quite effective against the Holders. The Holders attack with torpedoes that are easy to avoid if you approach them from below, but if you approach them from above, the target they have on top will fire missiles at you unless you destroy it. There are also many submarines in the water that are stationary but can be dangerous if you're not careful. There are five Type-E9: Holders and two of them are stationary, but the other three are moving and will leave the battlefield if you don't destroy them in enough time. It's best to go after the ones that move first. The carriers occasionally submerge, so the target component they have underneath them becomes impossible to destroy until after the carrier rises again.

There are few enemies in the air, but the one you should definitely watch out for is Sergei in his Su-32FN which is arguably his best plane. He's fast and he can be deadly with his missiles if you don't ignore him.
