- "This versatile fighter is built for both aerial and ground combat. Some say it lacks character, but it's damn good plane.[sic]"
The F/A-18E Super Hornet is a recurring aircraft in the Airforce Delta series, it appears in all three Airforce Delta games. In Airforce Delta Strike, it is usable by Brian Douglas, and is used by Bravo Team.
Origin (Real-Life)[]
The F/A-18E Super Hornet is an advancement to the F/A-18C Hornet, made by McDonnell Douglas for the US Navy. In reality, it is practically a completely new plane; the reason for the similar design/designation to the normal Hornet is so the Navy could tell Congress that's all it was, therefore making it a less attractive target for budget cuts. It is still serving the US Navy today, serving as a defense role (While the F-35 is being moved into an attack role).
Design (All Games)[]
As mentioned, this craft does bear a major similarity to the F/A-18C. However, it is a much larger aircraft (Around the same size as an F-15, in fact). It possesses a much larger wingspan, and a more developed front-section. However, aside from that, this plane looks very similar to the older Hornet.
Performance[]
Airforce Delta[]
A very remarkably unremarkable plane. All of its stats are average. By this point, you'll already have the MiG-29 and F-16 unlocked, the former of which trumps this plane in all aspects. As a result, there's really not much point in using this plane over that...
Airforce Delta Storm[]
Much better than the AFD version. Stats are above average all around, with highlights including Defense, Power, and Mobility. This makes it a very above average plane, much better than the F/A-18C Hornet. However, it does have some stiff competition with other late game planes, such as the MiG-33 "Fulcrum", the Su-30MKI, and other such planes. As a result, this plane starts to pale in comparison to them. And even still, it has an improved version in the F/A-18S. As a result, this will sadly start to go by the wayside very soon.
Airforce Delta Strike[]
A very above-average plane for Brian. It is one of his few planes that could actually hold its own in a dogfight, something very rare among 2nd Element. This makes it a very useful aircraft... Except it's unlocked at Phase 9. Meaning you won't be using this thing until the tail end of the game. That very much so hurts its usability, especially when compared to the Su-34 you may already have unlocked at this point. Still, this does have a niche at being an effective dogfighter among 2nd Element.
