Briefing (if Decision was not completed in a previous game)

Robert: [smiles] All right, everyone. Make yourselves comfortable. Lilia, can you give us the sit rep?

Lilia: Yes, well...things don't look so good. Without the Chiron Lift, our space fleet's been left out in the cold. Right now, there's only one way to join up with them. We have to use the heavy lift vehicles to launch ourselves into orbit from the Uranometria base.

Jamie: But don't you think the enemy might notice what we're up to?

Lilia: Of course they would. They're not stupid. They'll probably send special ops to Uranometria. That's why I'm giving you my own orders. The Delta Squadron will head to the Uranometria base. 1st and 3rd Elements, provide cover until the final HVL[sic] lifts off, and then dock on it. That's it.

Alex: In other words, we fight to the very end, then fly away on the last train.

Lilia: Something like that. The enemy's going to attack, so we need cover, but no one else has the manpower. So it's up to us.

John: [smiles] I'm okay with it. I'm gonna miss planet earth, though. I want to do a little hunting before I go.

Holst: [smiles] Well, good luck. My element isn't cut out for this kind of job. I'll let you handle them.

Jamie: [delightfully] You can count on us, all right. Okay, you guys! Let's go!

Lilia: Oh, one more thing. No propeller planes.

Jamie: [frowns] What?!

Lilia: It's only natural. How do you expect to fly through space with one? And you wouldn't be able to get close enough to the HLV to dock. Trade it in for a jet. And that's an order.

Rick: [angry] But he hasn't completed his crossover training yet!

Lilia: [angry] Time for some on-the-job training instead. I've asked Harry to get a jet fighter ready. You can either fly that or be left behind with the ground troops. It's your choice.

Rick: Unbelievable...!

Jamie: ...... [grunts]

Lilia: [calms down] What's it going to be? Stay behind? Or come with us?

Jamie: [distressed] ...I can't do it! I can't leave my prop-plane!

Rick: [distressed] Jamie!

Alex: [sadly] Then it's settled.

Lilia: I guess so. Well, wish us good luck, then. We'll get in touch when we can.

Jamie: [sadly] All right... Good luck.

Lilia: [smiles] Well, we'll see you again when the mission's over. I have every intention of coming back. Wait up for us, okay?

Jamie: [turns neutral] Sorry, team. I'm an old man and I guess it's tough to change... Hope you can forgive me.

Lilia: All right, everyone else, let's head out! Prepare for mobilization!

Robert: 1st and 3rd Elements, we're counting on you to cover that HLV. And be careful docking.

R-Mite 5: Crab 5 here. Analysis complete. We can get in on the subchannel bypass. Use the CC Unit's Module 2.

R-Mite 1: Crab 1, roger that. Target verified. Now entering capture sequence.

R-Mite 5: All units man your posts! Don't blow your timing!

R-Mite 1: Roger.

Starlight Copilot: Sir! There's something on the radar, in front of us!

Starlight Pilot: Look into it! Whoa! What the hell is this?

Starlight Copilot: A crab? Here?

Amelia: Nomad to all units. Destroy all Crabs clinging to the Starlight. Now scramble!

R-Mite 2: Crab 2 now in sequence. Moving into Phase 2. Crab 2, attached successfully. Module 2 also in place.

R-Mite 3: Crab 3 here. I'm gonna go grab 'em! Crab 3. No problem here. Module 2's okay, too.

[after at least two crabs have latched onto the Starlight, the following five lines are said]

R-Mite 5: Connection verified. Begin upload.

Starlight Copilot: Sir! The subchannel response is way down!

Starlight Pilot: What can that mean? Check it out!

Starlight Copilot: Huh? We've been hacked... via the subchannel?!

Starlight Pilot: What?!

R-Mite 4: Oops! Crab 4, coming in a little late!

R-Mite 2: (if his R-Mite has not been destroyed by the time R-Mite 4 latches onto the Starlight) What have you been up to? Hurry up and latch on!

R-Mite 4: (if R-Mite 2's crab has not been destroyed by the time R-Mite 4 latches onto the Starlight) Yeah, yeah, roger. I'll clamp on after we start moving. (regardless of whether R-Mite 2's crab has been destroyed or not by this point, R-Mite 4 will say the following line) Hey, make me some room! Crab 4, Module 2 installed just fine!

Starlight Pilot: Cut the subchannel!

Starlight Copilot: I can't! We might not be able to fly safely if we do! Damn!

R-Mite 5: Program loaded. Now loading attack unit.

Starlight Pilot: Do we have a defense program on board?

Starlight Copilot: The defense program is too big... But I think... maybe an anti-cracking module... Here we go!

Starlight Pilot: Great! Will that help?

Starlight Copilot: With current transmission levels, yes, But not much more.

Starlight Pilot: Just like what Nomad heard. Get 'em out of here now!

R-Mite 5: The attack unit should be loaded soon.

Amelia: (after one crab has been destroyed) Four crabs left.

Amelia: (after two crabs have been destroyed) Three crabs left.

Amelia: (after three crabs have been destroyed) Two crabs left.

Amelia: (after four crabs have been destroyed) One crab left.

[if the player does not destroy the crabs clinging to the Starlight within a certain amount of time, the mission will fail and the following three lines will be said]

R-Mite 5: System hacking successful!

Starlight Copilot: O-our system's been taken over! I can't control it! The Starlight has been halted...

Starlight Pilot: Have we... lost?

[after all crabs have been destroyed, the following dialogue will take place]

Starlight Pilot: Main boosters on.

Starlight Copilot: Main boosters... all stabilized. Now increasing speed. Vehicle stable.

Starlight Pilot: Starlight here. We'll be able to enter flight sequence soon. Starlight to Uranometria base. Switch from loop to catapult.

Control: Uranometria base, roger. Changing route to catapult.

Starlight Copilot: V1... VR... V2... we have liftoff! Docking route sequence entry complete!

Starlight Pilot: Good. Starlight to Delta. We're taking a big detour before securing our route. This is our only shot. We're counting on you. Starlight here. We're approaching angels 12 (3500 meters. in the PAL version). Keep climbing and get ready!

Amelia: Nomad to all units. Now forwarding Starlight docking information to HUD. Gather behind Starlight, within the indicated area.

Starlight Copilot: (when the player is almost done docking on the Starlight) Just a little more--keep it up!

Starlight Copilot: (when the player flies too low while attempting to dock on the Starlight) You're drifting down! Increase altitude!

Starlight Copilot: (when the player flies too far to the left while attempting to dock on the Starlight) You're drifting left! Move right!

Starlight Copilot: (when the player flies too slow while attempting to dock on the Starlight) You're too slow! Speed it up!

Starlight: (when the player flies perfectly while attempting to dock on the Starlight) That's right, just like that! Keep 'em coming!

[if the player does not dock on the Starlight within a certain amount of time, the mission will fail and the following two lines will be said]

Starlight Copilot: This is it--we can't hold out any more. Sorry, but it's a no go.

Amelia: The mission has failed...

[when the player successfully docks on the Starlight, either of the following two lines will be said]

Starlight Pilot: Docking complete! Great job!

Starlight Copilot: We'll take over from here. Thanks a lot!

Starlight Pilot: (regardless of whether his line above or the Starlight Copilot's line above is said) Plane storage now complete. Let's get out of here!

[mission ends]

Post-Mission Cutscene (Departure)

[shows the Starlight flying up into the sky, leaving atmosphere, and entering space. The Starlight and many other HLVs are then shown approaching the mother ship "Isis"]

Unknown: This is the mother ship "Isis".NOTE: A period is erroneously excluded in the game's subtitles. Allow us to extend a warm welcome to you.

Debriefing

[if Ellen was not unlocked, the following dialogue will be said]

[in hallway]

Alex: [smiles] Man... This ship is absolutely incredible! A real space aircraft carrier!

Rick: [sad] ...

Alex: Even with surrendered OCC scientists' help, I can't believe our army built it. Now we can really ram that OCC main base!

Rick: ...

Alex: I can't believe the things Lilia comes up with. And she actually pulls 'em off, too!

Rick: ...Yeah. Cool.

Alex: [frowns] ...Rick, are you even listening? What's with the half-dead answers?

Rick: Oh... sorry. I was just thinking about something.

Alex: Thinking about Jamie again...?

Rick: !!

Alex: That's it, isn't it? I know how you feel, but you gotta pull yourself together, man! You're the new lead, not a wing anymore.

Rick: I'm... I'm not cut out for lead, Alex... I'm no leader.

Alex: Look, I miss Jamie, too, but--

Rick: Yeah... It's like all the meaning's gone out of it...

Alex: [angry] Aw, grow up, Rick!

Rick: What?

Alex: I'm disappointed in you. I didn't think you'd get like this just because Jamie wasn't around to hold your hand anymore!

Rick: What? Alex...!

Alex: When we get back to Earth, we'll see him again. It's not like he's dead or anything. Where's your motivation, man? You've gotta stand on your own two feet! How else you gonna survive this thing?

Rick: ...

Alex: [calms down] That was a pretty tough decision Jamie made. He stayed behind so he wouldn't get in our way. You've gotta respect that.

Rick: [turns neutral] I-I'm sorry, Alex. I got so used to having Jamie around to argue with. I guess I'm just really homesick...

Alex: [smiles] It's way too early to be getting homesick, Rick.

Rick: [smiles] I guess the ticket is to just hurry up and get this thing over with. When it comes to speed, I've got the patent out on it!

Alex: There you go! That's the kind of lead I'd be proud to be wingman under. Keep that up!

Rick: It's only temporary, anyway. I might as well try to be the best lead I can!

[if Ellen was unlocked, the following dialogue will take place]

[in meeting room]

Robert: Ah, there you are, Rick!

Rick: Yes, sir. You wanted to see me?

Alex: You called for me, too, right, Commander? I hope it isn't another sticky mission.

Robert: No, nothing like that. I've got a new recruit for your element now that Jamie's gone. Thought I'd introduce you.

Rick: A new recruit? This is a surprise. Well, I'm glad you're not going to leave us shorthanded. What kind of guy is it?

Robert: Let me introduce you.

Ellen: [offscreen and referred to as ? at first] Hello. [appears onscreen, smiling, and no longer referred to as ?] Nice to meet you. I'm Ellen McNichol. I'm looking forward to working with you guys.

Rick: [angry] B-but Commander! She's...!

Robert: [smiles] Yes, that's right. Meet your new recruit, Ellen. She has a lot of experience in space, so learn all you can from her.

Rick: But Commander! What's she doing aboard Isis? Doesn't our army still have her on probation?

Robert: She's been assigned to Delta under my authority. Why leave an experienced pilot behind when we could really use her?

Rick: Yes, sir...

Alex: [smiles] Yeah, I bet she's glad to escape the hot seat here on Earth. Pretty bold move, Commander.

Robert: [grins] She needed my help. How could I just leave her? I did something similar for Lilia once, too. ...Well, play nice, boys.

Alex: Hoo boy... Yes, sir.

Rick: [calms down] Yes, sir. Welcome aboard, Ellen.

Ellen: [delightfully] Thank you, it's good to be here.

[they head to the hallway and Rick looks confused while Ellen is smiling]

Rick: But wouldn't you rather have been assigned somewhere else?

Ellen: What do you mean?

Rick: I mean, what with you... and Ken... and all. Didn't you want to be assigned to his element?

Alex: [shudders] What? And then we would've had to take Lieutenant Rundal! No way!

Ellen: Actually, the Commander offered, but I refused. He couldn't understand it, either.

Rick: So why did you refuse, anyway?

Ellen: Even though I was being controlled, it doesn't change all the horrible things I did. I feel like I have to atone...

Rick: Atone?

Ellen: That's right. I don't deserve to be with Ken until the war is over and there's peace again. Why should I be happy when there's all this misery? My time for happiness will come when everybody can be happy, too.

Alex: [turns neutral] So in the meantime, you just concentrate on fighting, huh?

Ellen: [turns serious] Right. The entire human race is in danger of being wiped out! We've got to end this war as fast as we can.

Alex: [smiles] I'm with you on that! How 'bout you, Lead?

Rick: [turns neutral] Damn straight! Ellen, welcome to Delta Squadron 1st Element! You're one of us now.

Ellen: [delightfully] And there's nothing I won't do for Delta! Thanks for the welcome!

Alex: [delightfully] Now I say it's time for a little welcoming party!

[transitions to O.C.C. side in the area where people go to speak to Navigator who is unseen in debriefings. The following dialogue does not change regardless of whether or not Ellen was unlocked]

Francine: ...

Navigator: CITIZEN FRANCINE DAVOUT, WE WELCOME YOU.

Pierre: [smiles] Now you're one of us. Pretty nifty, huh, Francine?

Francine: I'm really grateful. Thank you for keeping me in the battle.

Navigator: AS LONG AS YOU DON'T BECOME A LIABILITY TO US, YOU'RE WELCOME TO FIGHT ALL YOU LIKE.

Francine: [smiles] Thank you, sir. Fighting is what I've got to do!

Pierre: Oh yeah! You ought to get upgraded, too! You could be more than a mere human, you know, like me!

Francine: [frowns] Huh...?

Pierre: If what you want to do is fight, getting upgraded would be perfect for you! Then you could really teach 'em a lesson!

Francine: ...Uh, thanks, but no thanks. I'll see things through as a "mere" human, I guess. Well, I'll be going now. [leaves]

Pierre: [annoyed] ...What's up with that attitude? Here I was offering to make her into super girl, and she's not even grateful!

Navigator: ...YOU CERTAINLY ARE STRANGE AND INTERESTING CREATURES. BUT I FIND YOU DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND.

[transitions to the O.C.C. meeting room where Francine is]

Francine: My new battlefield...

Albert: [offscreen and is referred to as ? at first] Well! I never thought I'd see you here!

Francine: ?!

Albert: [appears onscreen and is no longer referred to as ?] You haven't forgotten me, have you? Albert Ungar.

Francine: [nervous] Oh, yes, Albert. How've you been? I don't think we've seen each other since before Kotor fell.

Albert: I guess that's about right. I never expected to see you out here in space.

Francine: I've got a few things I have to take care of. I just had to keep fighting!

Albert: ...I don't know why, but you seem... different somehow. You always used to be so full of life.

Francine: [calms down] Air battles used to be a real thrill for me. Now they're only a means to a certain end I've got planned.

Albert: So you've got your own agenda, huh?

Francine: That's right.

Albert: Well, hope that all turns out well for you.

Francine: Thanks. Are you going to be joining the battle, too?

Albert: [angry] No, I've got something I have to take care of, too. I'll be kept pretty busy getting ready for that for a while.

Francine: Oh, yeah? ...Well, looks like we'll be going our separate ways. Hope everything turns out well for you, too.

Albert: [calms down and smiles] Thanks.

Francine: Well, goodbye. [leaves]

Albert: [angry] ...That's right. I've got something to take care of. Just you wait, Pale Blue. I threw away everything--my unit, country, reputation. All for a showdown with you! And we will fight. We will, indeed.

[debriefing ends]

Interlude

The E.D.A.F. amassed its space fleet with the aim of taking O.C.C.'s main base. The fleet was made up of refugees from O.C.C.'s own space army and the precious few E.D.A.F. space troops that were left. Joining them were other recruits, most of whom had no space battle experience. It was truly a scratch fleet.

But the morale of the recruits who'd come from all over to join the fleet at SCP was for the most part high, and they trained hard in docked space craft to familiarize themselves with operating in space.

However, the O.C.C. space army was aware of the fleet's activities. They predicted that the fleet would strike the O.C.C. capital, the L-2 Colony.

The O.C.C. issued commands for all their warships to assemble at the L-2 Colony. This was the beginning of the countdown to the final battle.
